Skyline to hire Matt Johnson as new boys basketball coach
Matt Johnson will be the new boys basketball coach at Skyline pending Tuesday night's governing board approval.
Johnson has been at Fountain Hills for the past five seasons, amassing a 93-57 record in that span. He led the Falcons to a 3A state championship game appearance in 2010-11.
Fountain Hills went 12-17 this year, the only losing season in his tenure.
Skyline went 7-17 this season under Michael Wirth, who resigned at the end of the year and is now the coach at Campo Verde.
The Coyotes did not have a senior among their top seven scorers, but star sophomore Jordan Lee (12.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 3.0 steals) transferred to Mesquite after the season ended.
Guard Michael Sheridan (11.7 points) is expected to be the team's top returning scorer.
